Dolphins Draft Preview
As of 3/15 Roster

Team Strengths
As of right now the only strength on this team is their ability to run the ball, with backs like Ricky Williams, Lorenzo Booker and of course Ronnie Brown. Jesse Chatman and Ronnie Brown succeeded with a lackluster line last year and hopefully with a somewhat improved line they can do it this year. Browns knee injury brings into question whether he can stay at the same pace he was at the beginning of the Dolphins season. Rickie Williams is also questionable as the first time he played last season within 10 plays he was already injured. Booker is a wildcard as he has not yet to get the chance to prove what he can do. He can be a good receiving and speed back and could help Ronnie when they do speed plays. There really are no other strengths for the Dolphins as is why they have the number 1 pick in the draft.

Areas For Improvement
The most needed area of strength are both sides of the Line, defensive and offensive. Matt Roth did not prove what he was supposed to be last year and Quentin Moses for the most part is still very raw. Vonnie Holiday could be moved to the LDE spot and Jason Taylor could be traded so shoring up the RDE spot could be a spot of need in the Draft. As for the offensive line, There still is no definite Left Tackle in Miami. Vernon Carey is alright but he is better at RT, as well RG is not filled up and is a major need. Center and LG are already fine with Justin Smiley and Samson Satele. So RG and LT need to be addressed. To a little less degree of need is CB, LB and WR. The secondary last year was absolutely horrible, giving up many yards but as was the interior. Linebackers are for the most part alright with Torbor, Crowder and Porter but the 4th LB needs to be found with Taylor most likely not going to be a Dolphin. As well the WR's for the Dolphins could not catch last year, Dropped ball after dropped ball and Ernest Wilford who is an alright catcher has been brought in, but don't be suprised if another one is brought in.

Possibilities for the 1st pick
-Chris Long
-Jake Long
-Vernon Gholston
-Matt Ryan
-Glenn Dorsey
-Sedrick Ellis

Most Likely to be picked #1
Chris Long
They hype surrounding him has been huge and it has triumphed him into being the best Defensive Lineman in the draft. If traded he would replace Jason Taylor as a DE/OLB and would bring another big face to the defense that was lost with Zach Thomas. The other strong possibilities are Jake Long and Vernon Gholston. Jake Long would be a franchise Left Tackle for the Dolphins which they haven't had in the past. He is strong and has lengthy arms so he could protect Becks/McCowns blind spot. Gholston who is more of a 3-4 OLB, would help get to the QB on blitzes. He is a possibility but not the most likely.

Rest Of The Draft
The Dolphins have a lot of picks in the draft, so they can try and rebuild the team which was absolutely horrible. They have the 32nd Pick and with that I would imagine they go with a lineman either Gosder Cherilus or Chilo Rachal (could be gotten with their 2nd 2nd round pick). Gosder would just slip to the 2nd but the Tackle class is deep so who knows what could go on. With the second pick in the 2nd round courtesy of the Chargers I would expect the Dolphins to go with either an LB, WR or CB. Antoine Cason or Justin King could be there for CB's, Curtis Lofton for LB and Donnie Avery at WR. I would expect a CB or an LB. On their for the draft it would depend who was picked in the 2nd round and it would go on the previous needs.

Dolphins Free Agency
As Free Agency nears and the trading period opens, its time to look at what the dolphins need to improve on during the Free Agency period. With the Free Agenct pack being very limited, theirs a few people we can go after and I'll rank in terms of needs and depth in the position. With rebuilding occuring i don't believe many Huge free agent signings will occur but enough to get a solid core to rebuild around players like Ronnie Brown. I'll list the ones i feel are most important and that there is the most depth at

1.)Offensive Line
The line was not absolutely horrific in 2007 as it has been in the past years but it really needs some improvement to make sure John Beck is protected properly and Ronnie Brown can run the ball still. The whole left side of the line needs to be redone, to make sure we can hold the blind spot of Beck which was a problem last year. Possibilities in Free Agency are Max Starks, Ryan Lilja, Flozell Adams, Alan Faneca and many more from where they come from. Some of these lineman could hold down our line for years to come and create a better situation for Beck. I'd expect a Tackle/Guard combo in FA as i can't see us taking any lineman early in the draft that could possibly start. I'd look for Flozell Adams since he used to play in Dallas and possibly Alan Faneca but i would doubt that more than likely it would be Floyd Womack or Ryan Lilja.

2.) Secondary
Our safeties are manageable, we could use a little help but the Cornerbacks are not near top performance. The best CB we have is Will Allen and thats not really saying much, we need to rev up the secondary by either drafting a CB 1st or 2nd round (1st is depending upon a trade), but As for Free Agency possible names are Asante Samuel, although the money that would be recquired to sign him would be extremely too much, as well as Drayton Florence who could help the secondary alot. Marcus Trufant maybe brought up but hes another big money guy and might actually get resigned by the Seahawks. We will have to gradually build up the secondary to make it better. Of all those names I would expect the Dolphins to have some intrest in Samuel but primarily go after Florence to head the CB core.

3.)Linebacker
Unfortunately it was a toss up between Wide Receiver/Defensive Line and Linebacker and linebacker won due to Zach Thomas getting released and having virtually little depth at linebacker. We need any LB we can get if we go to a 3-4 and getting depth in there would help the run stop defense. Names such as Lance Briggs, Karlos Dansby and Kawika Mitchell have come up as possible signings. Briggs has been rumored to like Miami, but as to how much he wants that up to Drew Rosenhaus. Dansby is a pretty good LB and could do the job as well as the Giants LB Kawika Mitchell, who i saw in Giants training camp and he was pretty amazing. Going for depth at LB could also be achieved in the draft.

4.)Wide Receiver/Defensive Line
The Depth at WR and D Line are extremely bad this year not very many star names. Their is the possibility of Randy Moss at WR but that is extremely unlikely as he'll most likely stay in New England, as well as Andre Johnson who looks to be staying in Houston. But other top names such as Bernard Berrian, Bryant Johnson and others could be good but they won't make a very big impact on miami. As for the D Line, their is the definite possibility of Albert Haynesworth but its not definite as to whether the contact between the Titans and Hayneswoth will get done. But if it doesn't expect him to be one of the top coveted Free Agents in Miami. Another Name is Justin Smith, but he would just be another servicable DE on the team which we don't really need for a rebuilding team.

So as for an overview, I would really expect some offensive line signings because of the incredible depth at that position and I'm sure as a Line coach, Sparano wants a deep line. I wouldn't know about a secondary signing but i feel thats a position that has to be addressed immediatley. A Linebacker/Wide Receiver/Defensive Line signing wouldn't be out of the ordinary it might be big but who knows, weirder things have happened in the past in Miami.

#1 Pick Dillemma
If you go regularly to golf clubs, that does not imply that you can only be seen around with golf equipment. You cannot let your basketball equipment rot in the attic.

In a little over 3 months the Dolphins will be on the clock for the 1st pick in the draft, or will they? Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland has pubically admitted that he is shopping the #1 pick. But clues as to where the pick may go are all in the imaginations of fans. Thoughts of trading the pick to Dallas for Marion Barber, and Dallas's first two second rounders have been defeated by Cowboys Owner. He Says "No, let me be very clear. No." about the rumors of Marion Barber trading. Now since no other activity has been announced in the trading, Fans have started to question whether its being traded or coming up with trades that may possibly happen. Some trades made up have been trades to the Bengals, Lions and another trade to the Cowboys.

The Lions trades involves either Roy Williams and/or Shaun Rogers and the Lions 1st round pick. The rumors concerning Roy Williams and Shaun Rogers are true concerning them being shopped, but they are still considered to be in the Lions plan for next year. They will most likely keep on to both Rogers and Williams, unless their is an amazing deal which the trade for the Dolphins pick is not one of them. The Lions wouldn't want to spend even more money on a number one pick which would most likely be Darren McFadden, when they just paid Calvin Johnson big money last season. As for the Bengals trade it would be Chad Johnson and their first round pick (#9), and trade it for the number one pick. This trade doesn't make much sense for the Bengals, They already have a running back in Kenny Watson and Rudi Johnson and as for QB they have their franchise QB in Carson Palmer. Also at left tackle they have Levi Jones, the only question mark they have that could be addressed at the number 1 pick is defensive tackle. But I would doubt they would trade up just to get Glenn Dorsey. They could easily get Sedrick Ellis at pick 9. And for the other Cowboys trade, it would be the two first round picks as well as either Bobby Carpenter and/or Marcus Spears who they are shopping. This would only happen if Jerry Jones really does have the so called "Man Crush" on Darren McFadden like some people say. I wouldn't know but, news will eventually get out about this.

So if the Dolphins do not trade this pick, most Dolphins fans have determined that it is between Glenn Dorsey, Chris Long and Jake Long. Sedrick Ellis could be thrown in their but it depends on his combine workout and Pro day. Glenn Dorsey would be a great fit for a 3-4 defense which Miami has not decided on yet. Tony Sparano is still looking over the team and deciding what to do, if it is a 3-4 defense you will see Dorsey picked on many mock drafts. For Jake Long, Many believe bringing a franchise left tackle and moving LJ Shelton to the right side of the line would lock up this line. It maybe possible but this is the least likely of all the situations as the Dolphins line was pretty good last year, but deteriorated at the end of the season due to injuries and fatigue. Chris Long is going up on the board on most Miami fans board due to Matt Roths non factor on the defense this year. He could possibly be the replacement to Jason Taylor and a good fixer upper on the line. His stock has been rising in most rankings and could do better if he has a good combine. Some so called "experts" like Todd McShay of ESPN have put Matt Ryan in their mock drafts and have explained the possibilities of Darren McFadden. First off Darren McFadden makes no sense what so ever. So a year after drafting a running back in the 3rd round and 3 years after selecting a very good running back 2nd overall we're going to pay so much guaranteed money to a back thats going to be a committee back? Not happening... As for Matt Ryan, as much as some people think the Dolphins need a QB. We still haven't seen what John Beck is made of and the QB depth in this draft is amazing so why give money to a QB when we could pick one up in the 3rd that may be better than him?

The Dolphins draft will be a monumental event in which they technically have 4 picks in the first 2 rounds. It will be apart of the current rebuilding process and bring youth to this team. Things still have to be figured out but, for now these are the possibilities the Dolphins could have.

The Tale of Two Draft Picks
Midway through the season people would've never expected that a so called bust pick by Miami would have a return for a touchdown and getting Miami catches while the one who they "were" expected to pick Brady Quinn is sitting on the bench. I admit I was not happy when we picked Ginn over Quinn, but when you get to the heart of it, the pick was better than most would've thought. Ginn is now the returner and possibly the number 1 receiver for Miami in the future. Spots that would've been filled by Wes Welker and Chris Chambers for which we got two second rounders and one seventh. So far that has landed us our starting center Samson Satele, who has been the heart of the line this year and Abraham Wright a DE converted to OLB backup and we have a second rounder for next year.

In place of Quinn we also drafted John Beck who so far has shown that he has presence in the pocket and the arm to get it down the field quick. His stats do not show this though, hopefully in the next few weeks. He has shown so far that he has the stuff to be an NFL caliber quarterback. Hopefully the Dolphins offense gets on track after the defeat to the Eagles.

Now back to the whole Quinn situation. I'd like to bring some quotes from a forum, i post at daily...

-I think that the Ginn pick was probably worse just because Quinn was still on the board, yet they choose Ginn, who is maybe the 4th or 5th best wr in the draft...where Quinn was the first or second best QB overall and the Dolphins need a QB

-You don't take a punt returner with the 9th pick, especially with a franchise QB on the board.

-Ginn
simply wasn't a top 10 pick, he wasn't a top 15 pick, he was barely a 1st round pick IMO

So right now these people are looking like fools, Quinn has done 0. Ginn has had 3 returns for a touchdown, but unfortunately 2 of them have been called back. And already he has a receiving touchdown. He is certainly more than what Dolphins fans asked for and was an extremely good pick. If you still think Quinn is a better pick email me yboord028@aol.com , i'll prove you wrong

Dolphins-Redskins Review
On the Offensive side

Trent Green-
In no way way her perfect or the savior of the team. BUT i can only think of 2 or 3 mistakes and none of them resulted in a turnover.

Brown/Chatman-
The redskins stopped our running game. Our o line wasn't helping us out much on the running game. I think the lack of a FB since the hammer is hurt and JP is a TE that forces brown to either be by himself or be the FB. Chatman is used to this system so i think Cam trusts him a little more. I trust him a lot more then i trust morris so thats an upgrade.

WR/TE-
Ladies and gentlemen Chris Chambers is back on track and might get back to pro bowl form. Booker had one big drop i remember but had a lot of good catches. Ginn got a Rev but thats all i remember. Martian had one drop that i can remember. JP did good but he almost had a big fumble too.

O-Line-
I honestly don't know whats going on here our pass protection got better but we couldn't open up a hole on the running game. If AA isn't hurt that much and can play RT then i say do that and move Shelton inside i was not please with Rex at all.

Defensively

D-Line-
I thought this was going to be a high light and i was not impressed. The redskins have a good o line but i expected more.

LBs-
They were everywhere but they have to do a better job stopping the run quickly.

secondary-a lot of peaks and valleys here first of all we got INts but we let a lot of big plays go. Lehan impressed me Hill got an INT. Tillman missed out when he should of helped T dan at least once so i was disappointed in him

Special teams.

Ginn did good had one good kick return. He just had to pick a lane and go forward and thats what he did i'll take 5 yards forward then 0 yards because he ran sideline to sideline (punt return)

Feely he isn't mare nuff said

Fields is streaky he does good some times I honestly miss DJ

Dolphins Preseason Game #2
Offense QB- Trent green looked considerably better, made great decisions, throws and had an overall great performance. Definitely better than any other quarterback we've had in years. Cleo lemon looked good but he is not as good as green at this point. I saw a pro bowl player in Trent Green.

RB- running back Brown once again showed he is a feature back and jesse chatman proved he is our best backup. As far as lorenzo goes, he is not big enough yet to play the running back position in the nfl. Every one compares him to brian westbrook and he didn't emerge until his 3rd or 4th year because he was also small when he came in the league. Lo booker WILL be a pro bowl caliber player at some point in his career but not yet. He's not going to make a significant impact on the team for a week or two. he HAS to bulk up if he is going to make it in this league and increase his acceleration and overall speed. I believe he will do what it takes to make it.

WR- biggest suprise of this pre-season is Derek Hagan. He got considerably bigger since last year. Almost looks like T.O. I was very impressede with his hands. He will be at least our 3rd wideout and should be a starter int his league right now because he is that good. P.K. Sam has looked good along with Kerry Reed. I was also impressed with Chris Chambers and his attitude on the field. He looks to have turned it around and if he plays to his potential it doesn't matter who's on the other side.

TE- David Martin showed signs of a good TE but was inconsistent. Courtney Anderson displayed his phenominal hands and athletic ability that i knew he had. Courtney should start because him and David Martin lack consistency however courtney has superior athletic ability to david martin so he would provide a bigger target and more speed at the position. Justin Peele to me has locked up the number two spot with his ability to block and catch.

O- Line- Vernon Carey and Samson Satele will be on our line for a long time. Anthony Alabi is not in near good enough shape right now to start in this league because of his injury. It was clearly visible. Hopefully L.J. Shelton overtakes him for the spot. Rex Hadnot should start this year and then hopefully let him go next year. Liwienski, Mormino and esera should be fighting for the other guard spot. Joe Toledo Is a lock to start even though he hasnt played a down but he is that god and athletic. Automatically deserves a spot on the line with Carey and Satele

Defense- Half the starting Defense wasn't playing. However Travis Daniels and Will Allen both looked good enough to be our starting corners. Michael Lehan also looked good enough to be our 3rd corner. Paul Soliai showed me promise and Rod Wright looks like a stud. Matt Roth Will be a pro bowl end this year or next year. He is your ideal defensive end with the tenasity toughness and passion he brings. Not to mention great strength and speed.

Jason Allen- It's been clear since last year when he gets on the field during game-time, he is a gamer. Everyone says he is a bust but when he was on the field last year, he held his own and caught the only pass thrown his way which is more than anyone can say abut any other DB on our team He also showed in the game that he is a safety by showing how hard he can hit when he forced the fumble.

Ted Ginn Jr.- He has to learn to play at full speed on this level. He was running backwards and 3/4 speed which devin hester never did so if he is going to live up to those comparisons, he better start running like people are chasing him.

Dolphins Vs. Jaguars Review
After a tight game the Dolphins came out in the end with an 18-17 win but along with the win came out some problems and some good things.

Negatives
Trent Green did not perform as expected he was slow to throw and he fumbled once he will need to be better to win the starting job. Also the first string offensive line was not very impressive not getting any running plays going long.

Vernon Carey got hurt in the first quarter which is not a good sign for the Dolphins line. At this moment they say it is a bruised knee but it will be checked upon. Pete Kendall if traded would help the line situation very much.

Lorenzo Booker or Ted Ginn didn't get much playing time so we did not see if they have the explosiveness to change the offense or the returning game. They will probably get more playing time in the next few games.

Positives
Cleo Lemons did amazing while he was starting going 5 for 6 for 56 yards pretty good for the time he was out. Also watch out for him to be in contention for the starting job for next game after this start. As well John Beck looked great but didn't put up the best stats. He got rid of the ball quick and rolled out when needed. He was 3/5 in the little time he was in. He also fumbled but that was recovered by Patrick Cobbs for a 1st down.

The defense as always looked amazing stoping the jaguars offense in the first quarter. They shut down Maurice Jones-Drew and Fred Taylor. But thats the only thing the Jaguars really have, look ahead to future games to see how the defense really is.

It looks like a bunch of people on the line of getting cut are really performing for their jobs. Kerry Reed, P.K. Sam, Patrick Cobbs and Jessie Chatman all did amazing jobs tonight guiding them towards the win. The WR situation will be a hard one with very few spots and  alot of WR's who could compete.

Overall
The Dolphins 1st team offense did not look good at all especially Trent Green, They need to do better or else this team will go absolutely nowhere. The Offensive line really needs help as well, hopefully Pete Kendall can come to the dolphins otherwise the lineman will have to step up big time. The backups were trying to prove a point in this game and they did looks like the backups will be very good. Well til next preseason game Thursday at KC, See you on the Flip side

Dolphins Season Preview
An In Depth Look At The Dolphins Schedule for the 2007-2008 Season
By:Andrew Butler

Well we've seen these stories that say he Dolphins will have an easy start to their season, well I'l go in depth to every game and see if what they say is true. This is gonna partially non-biased since im trying to be as fair as possible but well I am a Dolphins fan so its somewhat biased

Sep 9 @Washington 1:00pm:
This could possibly an easy start to the Dolphins season. The Redskins aren't getting any younger but the one threat they have that could hurt the Dolphins is Santana Moss. If Jason Campbell can perform this might be a bad day for the Dolphins. With the Secondary not as top speed as most secondaries, Moss could burn past the secondary all day. But I think Jason Campbell will have a bad day.
Result:Dolphins win 30-17

Sep 16 Dallas 4:05pm
This is a toss up between the Dolphins and the Cowboys with the Cowboys not doing much to improve the team this offseason it is all up to whether Tony Romo can perform and Julius Jones can break through the Dolphins Interior squad. Overall I think the Dolphins can win this, nobody knows if TO will perform as he did last year as well as Tony Romo. Its all up to the Dolphins Offense
Result:Dolphins win 24-20

Sep 23 @N.Y. Jets 1:00pm
With The Jets improving their offense by grabbing up Thomas Jones for barely nothing and improving their offense by drafting a CB I see no way the Dolphins can win this. With their tricky offensive scheme as well I don't know even if our LB's can stop them. I see this as a true test of what the Dolphins can do if they can win great but we'll see.
Result:Jets win 31-14

Sep 30 Oakland 1:00pm
After what I perceive as a loss this will be a great rebound the Raiders Defense didn't get any better even though it was pretty good but nobody knows if Russell will be good at QB he'll probably be getting accustomed to the position at this moment and it is for the Dolphins to take advantage of him. I think it will be closer than most people expect though.
Result:Dolphins win 21-14

Oct 7 @Houston 1:00pm
With the success the Dolphins have had against the Texans who knows what could happen. They have an unknown QB that performed well in the preseason and late in the season for the falcons but he will still get sacked like normal Texan QB's do.
Result:Dolphins Win 31-17

Oct 14 @Cleveland 1:00pm
Well here it is the moment everybody has been wating for the QB the Dolphins passed up against good 'ol Trent Green and John Beck. I doubt Quinn will even start and this team has been decimated by injuries so much . I believe the Browns will shut down our offense a little bit an what results to be a low scoring game.
Result:Dolphins win 17-10

Oct 21 New England 1:00pm
Well if you're keeping track the Patriots added about 20 wr's to what was their only need and guess what they got Adalius Thomas as well to strengthen their defense more. Well i see this as a total blowout from the Patriots they are way to good to be beaten.
Result:Patriots win 42-21 (Don't Criticize me for this lol)

Oct 28 N.Y. Giants (London) 12:00pm
Well welcome to jolly 'ole England land of The People and The Red Marauder (I Think?). Well with the Giants improving their secondary a little bit this could be an extremely good match up. I'm really tossed up on this one but i think there is no way the dolphins will be 6-2 at the bye week so ill say they lose.
Result:Giants win 24-21 in a really close game

Week 9 BYE
Well if you're keeping track the Dolphins are 5-3 but next is the difficult part of the season. 4 teams that made it to the playoffs and 3 who have won superbowl's within the past 5 years. Good Luck Dolphins

Nov 11 Buffalo 1:00pm
Well who knows about the Bills it all depends on whether their young players like Donte Whitner, Marshawn Lynch and J.P. Losman. I don't know if they can repeat their above average performance of last year. I think the Dolphins are better than last year and should beat them.
Result:Dolphins win 34-17

Nov 18 @Philadelphia 1:00pm
The Eagles lost their #1 WR in Donte Stallworth and they drafted a QB with their first pick in the draft. I think this again will be a close game for the Dolphins and I think they will come out the victors.
Result:Dolphins win 21-17

Nov 26 @Pittsburgh 8:30pm
The meeting of the former steeler Joey Porter will be short lived. The steelers drafted Lawerence Timmons who could be the air apparent to Porter. The Steelers offense is too good and so is their defense. The Dolphins defense is good but not enough to stop them.
Result:Steelers win 31-14

Dec 2 N.Y. Jets 1:00pm
Well again the Jets are just way too good to let the dolphins win. Their will probably be some injuries on both squads that equal the teams a little. But The Jets are still way too good to be beaten.
Result:Jets win 24-17

Dec 9 @Buffalo 1:00pm
Well since the last 3 games are extremely hard The Dolphins have to win this to have any chances of going above .500. Since the Bills are full of unknowns its possible the Dolphins can win this.
Result:Dolphins win 20-17

Dec 16 Baltimore 1:00pm
The Ravens are a little worse than last year with the loss of Adalius Thomas but they gained Willis McGahee. Their Defense is still amazing though you can't get through their secondary and their line and LB's are still really good. Their offense is still good with Clayton, McNair and McGahee. The Dolphins don't really have a chance on this one the Ravens are still good
Result:Ravens win 31-17

Dec 23 @New England 1:00pm
I'm not going through the explanation again they're still really good even though they probably have injuries
Result:Patriots win 31-21

Dec 30 Cincinnati 1:00pm
Cincinatti really didn't add anything else in the offseason except Leon Hall which was a great pickup for them. They still have Carson Palmer, Chad Johnson, Rudi Johnson and T.J. Whosyourmomma (Houshmanzadeh). Their defense is marginally good but it all depends on Ronnnie Brown to see if he can get through the line. I think the Bengals offense is too good and the dolphins offense isn't good enough.
Result:Bengals win 49-35

Overall:8-8

Thats not that bad of a record for a rebuilding team, I think they will end up 3rd in the AFC East behind the Jets and Patriots. They are way too good to be passed at this time but maybe next year when the Dolphins improve their offensive line and secondary they can get better. I have no real player expectations for the team I just hope John Beck and Trent Green compete for the starting QB job all season. I also hope that the offensive line and secondary perform above average because those are the 2 primary problems with the Dolphins and maybe people can step up. Lets hope for the best and maybe the Dolphins can do better than what i said.
